Ba

Is everything fine, Flo? You look disturbed.

Flo

Ré wants us to do a team retreat, an activity for team building.

Ba

What is he proposing?

Flo

He wants us to canoe down the Golfe River.

Ba

That is at the other end of the country. There’s nothing there! He knows camping is not your thing. Nor is it the others'. What is he thinking?

Flo

I don’t know. I don’t understand anymore. I think he’s testing me. I’ve been at odds with the team lately. I’m not the team player he wants. Maybe he’s trying to push me out ...

Ba

That’s nonsense. Ré only has praise for you! And how has this anything to do with a canoe trip?

Flo

I was talking with Ben, and he made me realize that Ré always says nice things, but he’s not very honest. Do you remember when I told you about Ol’s retirement party? Maybe he is doing the same with me?

Ba

What did Ben say?

Flo

I was telling him that I always feel like a disappointment when I’m around Ré ... how I feel I need to regain his trust ... Ben said that I should not constantly seek Ré’s approval. But Ré’s the president, also my mentor!

Ba

Ben is right about one thing: you have nothing to prove anymore. And you are overreacting if you think Ré is pushing you out. It’s very common to have team retreats. It’s where he chose that I don’t understand!

Flo

You know, I’m starting to think Ré is a two-faced beast! I cannot believe he is doing this to me! We work so closely together that can’t he just tell me if he has a problem with me?

Ba

And I’m sure he would! You worry too much, Flo. Maybe this retreat will help you.

Flo

I don’t think he has any respect for me anymore. We had such a great bond when we built the first generation of the integrated system. We were thinking alike; he followed me all along the way. It was fantastic. I cannot believe that’s not there anymore.

Ba

He was new; you made his success. He owes you lots. I’m sure he still holds you in very high esteem; he’s telling you so all the time.

Flo

That’s Ré! He gives great speeches, nothing more.

Ba

You trouble me, Flo. Maybe you’re right, but, as I said, Ben is right about one thing: you don’t need to please Ré. Forget this and try to treat this retreat as a holiday.

Flo

It’s camping! I will go down a river in a canoe ... You want me to see this as a holiday!

Ba

I know, Flo. Just try. It’ll do you good to disconnect from the office for a while.

Flo

How can I with this team? Being with Mi, Ki, and Ré won’t be a bit relaxing!

Ba

Ben is okay.

Flo

I’m not so sure anymore. Maybe he seeded this confusion in my mind. Is he the one messing with my head?

Ba

Why would he do that?

Flo

I don’t know. I don’t know anything anymore.

Will you be able to take care of Ha while I’m away?

Ba

I should. When are you leaving?

Flo

In two weeks.

Ba

Yes, I don’t have any business trips planned this month. In the worst-case scenario, your mom would be very happy to see her granddaughter for a few days.

Flo

Yes, but she’s far away! It wouldn’t be simple.

Ba

It shouldn’t be needed anyhow. But if it is, I can take a day off to take Ha to the country, to your mom’s.
